Practice Sustainability – Bring Your Water Bottle!

In partnership with GreenU Sustainability and ECO Agency, the Move-In and ‘Cane Kickoff programs are committed to positively impacting our environment. To support these efforts, we ask students and family members to bring their own reusable water bottles, which will greatly eliminate the negative effects of single-use plastic bottles.

As you make your preparations to arrive on campus, please review the information below regarding your move-in appointment our partnerships with numerous vendors, a list of items to consider bringing with you to campus, and more.

Move-In Appointments

Returning students can arrive starting Thursday, August 15, 2024. Returning students should arrive between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Arriving to Campus

Upon arriving on campus, check-in at your residential area's front desk between 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Remember to bring your ‘Cane Card with you.  

If you have lost your card, please arrive on campus during business hours and visit ‘Canes Central for a replacement.

What to Bring

In addition to the suggested packing list below, remember to view specific information about each of our residential areas, including room layouts, included amenities, and more. You should also consult our Guide to Living on Campus to become familiar with our policies and procedures for living on campus.

  • Microwave and/or mini-fridge (note that appliances are included in LSV and UV kitchens/kitchenettes)
  • Coffee maker (only machines with no open heat element)
  • Cups, dishes, and silverware
  • Can opener
  • Food storage containers
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Travel coffee mug

  • Shower shoes
  • Towel set
  • Shower caddy
  • Tissues
  • Broom and mop
  • Air freshener
  • Laundry bag or basket
  • Laundry detergent/fabric softener
  • Dish soap/sponge
  • Personal cleaning supplies
  • Small vacuum

  • School supplies (notebooks, pens, etc.)
  • Shower curtain (only needed in Lakeside Village and University Village)
  • Closet and drawer organizers
  • Garbage bags
  • Rain gear and umbrella
  • First aid kit
  • Flashlight
  • Television/game system with necessary cables (DIY Resouces)
  • Desk/floor lamp
  • Batteries
  • UL-Listed multi-outlet strip/surge protector
  • Removable adhesive hooks
  • Business Attire (check out the Toppel Career Center’s graphic for Dressing for Success)

The University has ended its partnership with BedLoft (including its MicroFridge rental program) and will no longer allow students to loft their beds. 

  • Candles and incense (used or unused)
  • Hookah pipes (used or unused)
  • Outdoor grills (charcoal or propane)
  • Items with an open heating element (i.e. George Foreman Grills)
  • Pets (Other than fish in a 10-gallon tank or less)
  • Extension cords
  • Weapons
  • Drugs or drug paraphernalia
  • Beer pong table, funnel, kegs, etc. (regardless of age)
  • Alcohol
  • Non-prescription drugs
  • "Hoverboards"

Shipping Packages to Campus

  • Non-University Village (Lakeside Village, Eaton)

    Mail and packages for residential students, except for those living in University Village, are processed by The UPS Store in Lakeside Village.

    Resident students can ship items to campus ahead of their move-in day, and The UPS Store is able to begin accepting items for returning students on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Any items received prior to this date will be rejected.

  • University Village

    Resident students can ship items to campus ahead of their move-in date, and University Village is able to begin accepting mail and packages for returning students on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Any packages received before this date will be rejected. 

Campus Housing Portal

Your on-campus housing assignment, roommate information and your mailing address (once released; for non-UV residents) are always available in your On-Campus Housing Portal.

To view details about your on-campus housing assignment in the portal:

  1. Log in to the Housing Portal 
  2. Once inside the housing portal, select Application.
  3. Your assignment is listed within the box titled Academic Year 2024-2025.
  4. Your mailing address (once released; for non-UV residents) will also be available on this page.

Select Continue and then advance to the Application Summary page to view more details about your assignment and to contact any roommate(s)/suitemate(s) from within the portal.
